Abortions are not selfish

On September 1, the Supreme Court failed to block an abortion law in

Texas which stated that most abortions are now illegal. You can’t legally

get an abortion after 6 weeks of being pregnant. This causes many issues

as most women don’t realize they are pregnant until about 8 weeks and at

that time it is too late to legally get an abortion if you are from Texas. Texas

now has the most restrictive abortion law in the nation. I believe it is

wrong to force women to go through a pregnancy that they may

not want, was caused by rape, or if they are very young.

Friends Season 8 ep. 14

People will judge you for wanting or getting an abortion because

they are “pro-life” however, once you have the baby, they no longer care about you

or the baby, they are pro-birth not pro-life. They will tell you that you shouldn’t

get an abortion but instead give birth and put up the baby up for adoption.

Adoption causes more issues; you could have an at-risk pregnancy

that you could die from, you may not have the money to afford all the

prenatal care that you might need. Being pregnant and carrying a baby

to full term takes a hard physical toll on a person’s body. When you

look at how many kids are in the foster system, it doesn’t make

anyone want to leave a baby there either, as they could end up not being adopted

or they could be placed in a home that has abusive parents. And when

it comes to people who want to adopt the same “pro-life” people only

want heterosexual couples to adopt and to stay within their own race and ethnicity.

Wanting or getting an abortion does not make someone a bad person.

Terminating a pregnancy isn’t about not wanting kids. It can be that you

got raped and it resulted in a pregnancy, many people in this situation don’t want

to give birth and be reminded of the incident each time they look at the baby

and even if the baby is put up for adoption the child could grow up and

want to know who their parents are and if they find out the truth it could

really mess up their life mentally, the idea that you are related to someone who

did not care enough to respect a woman and her saying no, depending on

how you were raised after being put up for adoption, personally I would feel

like those traits of not caring would be passed on to me biologically and I wouldn’t

know how to keep going in life the same way as before I found out.

Another reason for wanting an abortion could be that you know you don’t want

kids and that if you did, they would not be loved the way people should be loved by

parents. You would neglect them and maybe even resent them for changing your life

completely, knowing the love you are capable of giving or not giving to a person is

something everyone should know.

Some places will let you get an abortion for two reasons if you were raped

and if the person that is pregnant is disabled. I have never understood why people

think that disabled people can’t raise a baby. As of right now, every “disabled”

person I know are the sweetest, most caring people I know. They would love the baby

or babies they choose to have so much and would learn how to take care of them, if

they needed help there are many people that would be there for them, disabled or

not no one is ever alone in raising a child if they can find the right people to have

around them.

If someone lives in a state where abortions are illegal and they want or need one

they are forced to go to another state where abortions are legal but not everyone has

that option, many times if you are not finically able to support a child you most likely

do not have the money to travel out of state to get an abortion. Or it could be that you

only have one family car and aren’t able to be away with it long enough to get an abortion.

In Mexico, their Supreme Court ruled that being punished for an

abortion was unconstitutional and Michigan’s governor is also looking

to repeal the 90-year-old law banning abortion. There is much work to

be done in this world, especially when it comes to women's rights, but I’m

glad that some states/countries are working on being better.

Abortions aren’t selfish, they don’t mean you are heartless, and they

aren’t an easy way out. To even consider an abortion can be heartbreaking

to some people, they may even be heartbroken about going through with

it but they know it is the best choice they can make in that moment.
